BASIC FUNCTIONS |
The 3rd Shift Lead Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for leading overnight maintenance operations in a food manufacturing facility. This role provides technical leadership to maintenance technicians, coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance activities, ensures equipment reliability, and supports production goals while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and food safety standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
Troubleshoots, repairs and conducts preventative maintenance. Also includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Lead and coordinate all maintenance activities during the 3rd shift.
- Assign daily work orders and prioritize maintenance tasks based on production needs.
- Provide guidance, training, and technical support to maintenance mechanics and technicians.
- Communicate equipment issues, repairs, and shift activities during shift handovers.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
- Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on processing and packaging equipment.
- Analyze recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
- Maintain conveyors, mixers, pumps, ovens, freezers, packaging equipment, compressors, and production machinery.
- Support PLC and HMI troubleshooting when required.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, and company safety policies.
- Enforce lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and work order documentation.
- Ensure all repairs meet food safety and quality requirements.
- Performs other maintenance duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS |
5 plus years related work experience in packing and production machines, industrial repair and maintenance of electro-pneumatic-mechanical machines and systems.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent education from a Vocational Technical School.
- Strong knowledge of: Mechanical systems; Electrical troubleshooting; Pneumatics and hydraulics; PLC troubleshooting; Food processing and packaging equipment
- Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient in use of all tools normally used in testing, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electro-pneumatic-mechanical machines and systems.
- Welding capabilities are a plus but not a requirement.
- Must work well unsupervised and with others.
- Must be able to take direction from supervisors and managers not directly associated with the maintenance department.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English; Spanish bilingual strongly preferred.

Ability to work standing for 8 hour periods. Specific vision abilities required by this job.
EQUIPMENT USED |
Use of hand tools, vernier and dial calipers, drills, presses, cutting torches, and other shop equipment for the repair of a variety of mechanical equipment used in the manufacture and packaging of bread products. The use of meters such as voltage, amperage, continuity, mega and others in the diagnosis of electrical components is a plus.
